Winter tides and solstice moons mark our annual trip around the sun and serve as metaphor for our social and mental conditions. At this time of year, my thoughts are pulled between two tides, one of discontent, and one of fortune. On the ebb, we are dragged toward the shallows by a ship of government that has abandoned the welfare of its passengers, whereas, on the flood, the gradual return of light leads, eventually, to glorious summer sun. Our attitude and our mental health are determined by which tide we choose. I choose to sail with the flood tide and look forward to the glorious summer sun.
